MGM Resorts Awarded Maryland Casino License

The Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission (VLFLC) has granted MGM Resorts International a license to operate Maryland’s sixth casino, MGM announced this month.

Located in Prince George’s County, MGM’s $925 development will include a casino with 3,600 slots and 140 table games; a 300-suite hotel with a luxury spa and a rooftop pool; high-end retail; a 1,200-seat theater venue; a 5,000-space parking structure; and 35,000 square feet of meeting space.

“This is a great day for Prince George’s County, the State of Maryland and MGM,” MGM Resorts International Chairman and CEO Jim Murren said in a statement. “This is an achievement the whole community can share. We look forward to continuing our work with the local residents and businesses of Prince George’s County as we move the project forward.”

MGM was one of three companies — along with Penn National Gaming and Greenwood Racing Inc. — competing to build and operate a casino in Maryland after voters there approved a gaming expansion in November 2012. Although a construction timeline has not been announced, the resort could open as early as 2016.
