Luxury Operator Capella Prepares to Open First U.S. Resort in Telluride, Colo.

Capella Hotels and Resorts, which calls itself the world's first six-star hotel and resort management company, will make its U.S. debut on Feb. 12 in Telluride, Colo., with the opening of the 100-room Capella Telluride, it announced this month.

Located in the San Juan Mountains in Telluride's Mountain Village, Capella Telluride will feature an onsite spa, pool, fitness center and, because it will be a ski-in/ski-out resort, a Nordic Lounge with ski valet.

In addition, Capella Telluride will offer over 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a ballroom for up to 270 guests, an outdoor event space for up to 85 guests and a boardroom-style meeting room for up to 20 guests. In addition, the resort will include two on-premise restaurants and a bar—each of which can be reserved for private meetings and events—and will be situated near the Telluride Conference Center, which offers an additional 14,000 square feet of meeting space.

Capella Telluride is Capella's fourth hotel-resort. The luxury hotel operator debuted its first property in 2007 in Velden, Austria, which it followed with properties in Dusseldorf, Germany, and Ixtapa, Mexico. Other resorts are currently in the works for Sentosa Island, Singapore; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Castletownbere, Ireland; and Riviera Maya, Mexico—all opening in 2009—and for Niseko, Japan, opening in 2010.
