Los Angeles Mayor Celebrates E3 Expo

E3 Expo 2010 TN

Because it's one of his city's largest conventions, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa attended the first day of the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last week at the Los Angeles Convention Center, LA Inc., the Los Angeles convention and visitors bureau, announced yesterday.

What the mayor saw during his visit — despite the economy — was a show that was both bigger and better than last year, according to LA Inc., as the 2010 E3 Expo saw a 26 percent increase in reserved room nights over last year and about one-third more participating exhibitors.

"We're extremely pleased with the increase in attendance for this year's E3 Expo, since more attendees mean more hotel rooms and more money being spent within our city," said Villaraigosa, who in 2008 helped convince E3 organizers to sign a three-year deal to keep the show in Los Angeles through 2011. "This year's E3 Expo is expected to generate $23 million in revenue citywide with 25,000 total hotel room nights reserved throughout downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley."

The E3 Expo, which Los Angeles has hosted nearly every year since its inception in 1995, is a trade show for the computer and video game industries. Attended by media, analysts, retailers, developers and business partners, the show was expanded and upgraded in 2009 — the first year in Los Angeles' three-year deal — to include increased booth sizes, increased qualified audiences and an intensified focus on "reinforcing the high-octane growth, innovation and captivating entertainment that are driving the computer and video game industry."

"The E3 Expo brings the best of class in video gaming, digital imagery and leading edge information technology worldwide to the Los Angeles Convention Center," said Los Angeles Convention Center CEO and General Manager Pouria Abbassi. "We are grateful for the opportunity to host this unique event and appreciate the many years of collaboration with this important industry."

The 2011 E3 Expo will take place in Los Angeles June 7-9, 2011. For more information, visit www.e3expo.com.
