The Lodge at Sea Island, set on an island on the southeastern coast of Georgia, has unveiled the key components of its more than $25 million enhancement project that includes new guest cottages, an oceanfront pool and pool house, an 18-hole putting course, an expanded driving-range tee and more.
The six new cottages - five with two bedrooms, one with four, and all with living rooms - offer views of the Atlantic Ocean. Design touches include wide-plank hardwood floors, beams, fireplaces, custom framed TV cabinets, white-marble bathrooms and paintings by local artists. As with all other accommodations at The Lodge, guests in the cottages will have personal butler service. The new additions bring the property's guest-room total to 57.
The Lodge also has added an oceanfront pool and a pool house with double fireplaces, a wrap-around porch, food-and-beverage service and indoor/outdoor event space. The property now has a total of 40,000 square feet of flexible indoor meeting space for groups up to 500, along with an island full of outdoor gathering venues.
As part of the next phase of an ongoing enhancement, the property will unveil an all-new, 17,000-square-foot Golf Performance Center in early 2019. The new facility will replace the resort's existing center, widely recognized by the golf world as one of the finest in the country. New features include six instruction and club-fitting bays, a putting studio designed by world-renowned instructor Phil Kenyon, a full-service golf-club workshop, a fitness center with locker rooms, a retail area and indoor/outdoor meeting and event spaces.
In addition, Love Golf Design is revamping The Lodge at Sea Island's Plantation Course, which along with the signature Seaside Course serves as the site of the annual RSM Classic. The course is expected to reopen in October 2019.
"We are very excited to play a role in the enhancements taking place at The Lodge," said Davis Love III. "Mark and I have been redesigning Plantation in our minds for over 20 years as we have played it."
All of the work come on the heels of the completion of three new guest rooms with an adjoining parlor in The Lodge's main building, along with an expansion of the Trophy Room, a special-event space that celebrates Sea Island's rich golf history through unique memorabilia.
"This is another very exciting time here," said Scott Steilen, president and CEO of Sea Island. "Rather than resting on our laurels of being consistently ranked among the top hotels in the country, we are taking these steps to transform the overall experience and expand the appeal of The Lodge. When combined with the additional recreational amenities and access to all that Sea Island has to offer, we believe The Lodge will become an unequaled destination for a luxury golf experience or couples getaway."
