Liverpool, UK: Europe's Capital of Culture in 2008

Slated to be Europe’s capital of culture in 2008, the town that hatched the Beatles has already spruced up its famous St. George Hall (the Fab Four played there), reinvented its docks and its Cavern Club (pictured - the Fab Four played there, too), and is now going full-throttle on several multimillion-dollar projects, including a new, Moebius-shaped arena and conference center and a new, upscale shopping mall. And if you still think English food is bad, you haven’t been to Britain lately, where a new, artisanal food approach, as practiced at Liverpool’s London Carriage Works (part of the boutique Hope Street Hotel), is part of the “wow” factor that landed this Northern city its coveted culture title. And that's something you can't say, "boo" to.
