Las Vegas Sands Plans 'Convention Center to the World' in Madrid

Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson said during this week’s Jerusalem International Tourism Summit that his company plans to build a Las Vegas-style resort in Madrid that “may become the convention center of the world,” reports Successful Meetings sister publication Travel Weekly.

The resort — “EuroVegas” — is scheduled to open in 2017 and will reportedly have a dozen hotels with approximately 3,000 guest rooms each, plus 2,400 meeting rooms between them.

The Spanish government “has been very supportive” of the project, according to Adelson, who also spoke of a new gaming resort in South Korea, as well as hopes to pursue future projects in Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and possibly Taiwan.
