Kansas Speedway has announced details of a proposed Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Kansas City, Kan., which it says will deliver over $350 million in annual economic benefit to the state of Kansas. The speedway has fueled significant growth in Kansas since holding its first race in 2001, and its owners say that an adjacent hotel and casino would continue to provide economic opportunities."Kansas Speedway not only attracts hundreds of thousands of fans throughout the year but also serves as a catalyst for new development," Lesa France Kennedy, president of Kansas Speedway parent company International Speedway Corporation (ISC), said in a statement. "Many positive changes to the community have occurred since our arrival and we believe our Hard Rock Hotel & Casino proposal will continue the momentum we started and benefit the taxpayers of Kansas."Kansas Speedway has partnered with The Cordish Company—a St. Louis-based real estate development company—in order to put forth the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino proposal, which calls for a 300-room luxury hotel; a state-of-the-art casino with 3,000 slot machines and 140 gaming tables; 275,000 square feet of destination retail, dining and entertainment; first-class resort amenities; and "extensive" meeting and convention facilities. If Wyandotte County approves the project, Kansas Speedway says a temporary casino could take shape on the construction site within eight months, with the full hotel and permanent casino to follow thereafter.
