Island Hotel Newport Beach, a 20-story, 295-room retreat in the heart of Newport Center, Calif., has recently completed a two-year renovation of all guest rooms, meeting facilities and public spaces. The transformation took place in stages and includes the Palm Terrace Restaurant & Lounge; a 4,000-square-foot spa; a 3,000-square-foot resort-style pool; a fitness center; two outdoor lighted tennis courts; and over 30,000 square feet of meeting space. The most recent addition to the 23 year-old hotels spans over 20,000 square feet—five meeting spaces, five suites and a 6,000-square-foot ballroom.
Owned and operated by The Irvine Company, a privately held real estate investment company, and conceived by interior design firm Darrell Schmidt Design Associates, the renovation has impacted many parts of the hotel. As guests enter the foyer and lobby areas, they encounter modern artwork, plants, new furnishings, polished oak, granite and marble detailing, and custom Murano glass light fixtures. Casual groupings of chairs, sectionals and chaises are arranged in order to promote conversation. Upgrades also include soft gold-painted walls, fabric and raffia wall coverings, and newly installed carpets in muted shades of tan and green, reflecting the tropical motif of the resort.
Each guest room and suite has been enhanced with Stearns & Foster beds, 300-threatd count Rivolta linens and chenille throws, and marble bathrooms. Guest rooms feature garden or ocean panoramas in addition to new carpeting and draperies, wood furnishings, and marble and granite accents. Rooms also offer wireless Internet access, 42-inch plasma screen HDTVs with DVDs/CD stereo systems, Bose 321 audio systems and cable service with HD service.
