InterContinental Kansas City Plans Meeting Space Makeover

Although it completed a $16 million total renovation in 2009, the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza in Kansas City, Mo., already is starting its next improvement project, it announced last month: a $3 million series of aesthetic, maintenance and modernization projects that will include several meeting space upgrades.

Scheduled for completion by February 2012, planned improvements include:

• Restoration of all guest room balconies;

• Makeover of the entire Rooftop level, encompassing the Rooftop Ballroom, Rooftop Bar and Plaza Room banquet and reception facilities, including refinishing all walls, replacing carpeting in the foyer with stone, installing new carpeting in all three function rooms, adding new draperies for the floor-to-ceiling windows and purchasing new furniture for small group seating areas;

• Modernization of both wing elevators;

• A complete makeover of the 1,300-square-foot Presidential Suite, including all new carpet, drapes, linens, bedding, furniture and fixtures;

• Installation of new electronic in-room safes;

• Wing rooftop maintenance, repairs and resealing;

• New carpeting and wall coverings in guest room corridors; and

• Expansion of the Lobby Concierge reception area to create a more relaxed and gracious "living room" experience for guests.

Opened in 1972, the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza offers 366 guest rooms and 29,000 square feet of meeting space. For more information, visit www.kansascityic.com.
