Indianapolis Names New Downtown Development

A $155 million mixed-use community that will include a business hotel by Dolce Hotels and Resorts finally has a name, the City of Indianapolis announced this month: CityWay.

"This project spurs job creation, breathes new life into downtown and brings new people to live and invest in our city," said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. "By connecting surrounding neighborhoods with businesses and internationally recognized corporate headquarters, CityWay will increase our ability to attract talented individuals to live and work here."

Being orchestrated by national developer Buckingham Companies, CityWay will include multiple mid-rise, mixed-use buildings on approximately 15 acres of downtown real estate that's adjacent to four of Indianapolis' largest employers: Eli Lilly and Company, WellPoint Inc., Rolls Royce and Indiana Farm Bureau.

"CityWay will create thousands of new jobs and will also help to attract and retain the highly experienced and qualified employees Indianapolis companies must have to compete in a global marketplace," said Brad Chambers, president and CEO of Buckingham. "Additionally, CityWay will produce an estimated $350 million in income generation and consumer spending over its first five-year period. The project will be a huge benefit to the area, and we are very pleased to move forward."

Scheduled for completion in late 2012 or early 2013, CityWay will feature several hundred high-end apartments, 40,000 square feet of restaurants and retail shops, a new state-of-the-art YMCA and the aforementioned Dolce hotel, which will have 157 guest rooms and 16 meeting rooms — including a rooftop boardroom — totaling 15,000 square feet, all of which will be certified by the International Association of Conference Centers (IACC).

"In terms of location, vision and mission, CityWay is an ideal development for the Dolce brand," said Dolce President and CEO Steven Rudnitsky. "We see CityWay as a trend-setting model where Buckingham's innovative development and design meet Dolce's world-class service, cuisine and amenities."

As Successful Meetingsreported in April, Dolce said its new Indianapolis hotel will serve as its model for future urban hotels, functioning as a "hybrid between a center-city lifestyle and conference hotel."
