In an effort at bringing more meetings and conventions to Syracuse, N.Y., the Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB) and the Onecenter — the city's major downtown event venue — have collaborated in order to create a brand-new sales position in charge of generating new multi-property convention business, SCVB announced last month.
The new position, convention development director, will be occupied by Bill Adams, who most recently was director of sales for the Annapolis and Anne Arundel Convention & Visitors Bureau in Annapolis, Md. Based in Washington, D.C., Adams officially began his new position on Feb. 1.
"The convention development director will be responsible for soliciting and booking new meetings and conventions that maximize overnight stays for business booked within the Onecenter," said SCVB Vice President of Sales and Services Tracey Kegebein. "Bill will be working out of Washington, D.C., and his primary focus will be regional and national business in the D.C. and Chicago markets, which are virtually untapped areas for us."
Added Onecenter President and CEO Terri Toennies, "More than 60 convention and visitors bureaus across the United States utilize remote sales offices in key targeted business areas. This allows the salesperson to develop business opportunities through everyday networking and relationship building with the customer. We strongly believe in Bill's ability to reach outside of our immediate market through his past convention marketing experience, client resources and his vibrant personality to generate new regional and national business for the Onecenter and our area hotels."
