In Pursuit of Meetings, Minnesota Launches New Marketing Campaign

Hoping to lure more corporate meetings to Minnesota, state tourism officials have launched a new "Meet in Minnesota" marketing campaign, the state's tourism office, Explore Minnesota Tourism, announced this month.

The campaign, which includes public relations efforts, a promotional "Meet in Minnesota" brand and a new Web site—www.meetinminnesota.com—seeks to highlight meeting venues statewide, including everything from all-inclusive resorts to formal conference centers, in order to demonstrate Minnesota's versatility as a destination.

According to Explore Minnesota Tourism, which created Meet in Minnesota in conjunction with state CVBs and meeting venues, meeting and convention travel plays a key role in the state economy. The $11 billion leisure and hospitality industry accounts for 15 percent of Minnesota's state sales taxes, it points out, and 10.7 percent of the state's total private sector employment. According to Minnesota hotel managers, meeting and convention travelers make up an estimated 20 percent of their total room nights.
