Last month, the iconic nearly 80-year-old Sun Valley Resort in Sun Valley, ID, began a major renovation and expansion of the Sun Valley Lodge that will add a 20,000 square-foot, 15-room spa; a larger lobby; and the addition of new rooms, suites, and a new food-and-beverage menu.

The lodge was closed and is expected to reopen in June 2015. During the closure, Sun Valley Inn, cottages, condominiums, restaurants, retail shops, entertainment venues, and ski mountains will remain operational.

While the lodge's exterior will remain the same, the interior will be redesigned and rebuilt to offer larger rooms with fireplaces, modern amenities, and bigger bathrooms. The new spa will also have steam and sauna amenities, a fitness center and yoga studio, and will offer wellness treatments. It will be adjacent to a new outdoor swimming pool and pool café that offers views of Bald Mountain. The lodge's lobby will also be expanded.

Boston-based design firm Frank Nicholson and local Ketchum, ID-based architects Ruscitto, Latham, Blanton, are overseeing the renovation and expansion.
