Hotel Supply Expands in Downtown Wilmington, N.C.

Thanks to two new hotels, meeting and convention capabilities are growing in downtown Wilmington, N.C., the Wilmington Convention Center reported last week.

The first hotel, the new Courtyard by Marriott Wilmington Downtown, opened last week with 124 guest rooms and 1,879 square feet of meeting space, as well as free Wi-Fi, valet parking, an on-premise Starbucks and an onsite restaurant.

The second hotel, an Embassy Suites, will break ground in June and open in August 2015. Located adjacent to the Wilmington Convention Center, it will have 186 guest rooms and 6,600 square feet of meeting space, as well as an onsite restaurant, an indoor pool and a fitness center.

“We’ve been anxiously awaiting for more hotel inventory since the convention center opened in late 2010,” Wilmington Convention Center General Manager Susan Eaton said in a statement. “These new hotels are going to allow us to satisfy the demand for larger groups in the downtown area and in onsite accommodations from a wider variety of groups and conventions — this is great news for the City of Wilmington and the Wilmington Convention Center.”
