Harrah's Cherokee Casino & Hotel in Cherokee, N.C., has opened a new 3,000-plus seat event center, making it the "leading concert, events and entertainment venue in the region," it announced this month.
The new venue — amenities at which include a banquet kitchen, VIP suites, and box and balcony seating — opened Labor Day weekend with performances by Hank Williams Jr. and Grammy award-winning country music group Lady Antebellum.
Part of a $633 million expansion of the hotel and casino that's scheduled for completion in 2012, the new event center features modular seating that allows it to be used for a variety of events, including VIP banquets, expos, conferences, sports programming and special events. Other improvements underway as part of the expansion include a new hotel tower, an 18,000-square-foot spa, a state-of-the-art digital poker room, and new retail outlets and restaurants.
