Although planners are still buzzing about Gaylord Hotels' new resort in Colorado, the meetings industry can also look forward to improvements at one of its original properties: the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, TX, which opened in 2004 and is about to embark on a $120 million expansion, according to resort owner Ryman Hospitality Partners Inc.
Scheduled for completion in 2018, the expansion will add to the resort 300 additional guest rooms and 86,000 square feet of meeting space -- including a new 30,000-square-foot ballroom, 30,000 square feet of new breakout space, and approximately 26,000 square feet of new pre-function space -- bringing the property's total offering to 1,811 rooms and over 490,000 square feet of meeting space.
"This investment at Gaylord Texan is also a continued investment in Grapevine and its citizens," said William D. Tate, mayor of the City of Grapevine, which provided a $10 million incentive to the project. "We look forward to its completion and the additional visitors that will visit our city as a result."
