Gaylord Texan Plans Spring Debut for Massive Expansion

The new Vineyard Tower will add 303 rooms and 86,000 square feet of meeting space

The Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center already is one of the largest resorts in Texas and the Southwest. It's about to get even larger, however, thanks to a sprawling new expansion that's scheduled to be unveiled in May, Gaylord Hotels announced this week.

Located in Grapevine, TX, Gaylord Texan occupies 4.5 acres on Lake Grapevine, just outside of Dallas. As it stands now, it has 1,511 guest rooms and over 400,000 square feet of meeting space across 62 venues, not to mention a seasonal water park, indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, and 10 restaurants, bars, and cafes.

The new expansion, known as the Vineyard Tower, will add 303 guest rooms and 86,000 square feet of meeting space to the property, bringing its total accommodations and meeting space to 1,814 rooms and 490,000 square feet, respectively.

The new meeting space will occupy Vineyard Tower's first two floors. The first floor will include an outdoor garden terrace, 30,000 square feet of new breakout space, new pre-function space that's open to the second floor, and a corridor that connects to the rest of the resort. The second floor, meanwhile, will include more pre-function space, another outdoor terrace, and a new 30,000-square-foot ballroom whose centerpiece is a chandelier comprised of glass-blown horns that are a tribute to the Texas Longhorn.

"This expansion illustrates Ryman Hospitality Properties' confidence in group business demand within our brand," said Gaylord Senior Vice President Mike Stengel. "In addition to enhancing our Grapevine destination, the expansion has provided 450 construction jobs and several hundred permanent jobs for the local community."

When Vineyard Tower is complete, Gaylord Texan will be the third largest non-gaming meetings hotel in the United States, as measured by total self-contained exhibit and meeting space.
