GMIC Names Virginia Beach CVB Its First Platinum Member

The Green Meeting Industry Council has announced the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau of Virginia Beach, Va., as its first Platinum business member.

The first destination in the state to be certified as part of Virginia's Virginia Green program—which is a network of tourism-related organizations and businesses that are committed to protecting the environment while promoting responsible tourism—Virginia Beach, Va., has nearly 100 Virginia Green-certified hospitality businesses, including hotels, restaurants, attractions and events. It's also home to the Virginia Beach Convention Center, which is currently pursuing LEED certification and is the state's first Virginia Green-certified convention center.

In addition, Virginia Beach recently launched an oceanfront recycling program, offers hybrid-electric buses, and provides visitors and meeting planners alike with guidelines for "going green," via www.virginiabeachgreen.com.
