First LEED-Rated Ritz-Carlton to Open This Fall in Charlotte

A new Ritz-Carlton hotel is scheduled to open in October with 147 guest rooms and 12,000 square feet of meeting space in downtown Charlotte, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company recently announced.

Built and operated to attain LEED Gold environmental certification, The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte at Bank of America Center will be the first LEED hotel both in Charlotte and in The Ritz-Carlton portfolio.

Among the green features at the new 18-story hotel, according to Ritz-Carlton, will be a vegetation roof, 150 guest bicycle storage spaces, complimentary hybrid vehicle transportation for guests, sustainable materials—including sustainable wood, regional stone and low-VOC paint—and a water purification system designed to keep 73,000 plastic bottles out of landfills.

The hotel's spa and meeting space will be especially green; the former will offer eco-friendly spa treatments featuring 100 percent organic and vegan spa products while the latter will host green events, utilizing organic banquet menus, for instance, and recycled aluminum meeting room tables.
