The new Earth Expo & Convention Center has debuted at Mohegan Sun, the casino resort in Uncasville, CT. The $80 million expansion, which brings the property's total to more than 275,000 square feet of meeting space, is next to the property's Winter Parking Garage and adjacent to the Earth Tower guest rooms. The facility's first major event will be the third annual Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction of collector cars, June 20-23, 2018.
"While we have hosted many openings in our 22-year history, today's [opening] is equally, if not more important, as it symbolizes our commitment and dedication to our flagship property, our employees, southeastern Connecticut and the state as a whole," said Kevin "Red Eagle" Brown, the Mohegan Tribal Chairman, during the opening ceremonies.
The new facility offers the 125,000-square-foot, column-free Earth Expo Center, and the 20,000-square-foot Earth Ballroom, both with ample prefunction space and natural light. The 15 meeting rooms include a 1,263-square-foot executive boardroom with a private outdoor terrace. Enhancing the center are a 5,360-square-foot kitchen, state-of-the-art technology and free W-iFi.
"When you factor all of this in with Mohegan Sun's other Convention Center on property, Sky Convention Center -- we're home to over 275,000 square-feet of function space, all while being steps away from over 90 dining & retail options and numerous world-class entertainment venues, not to mention luxurious accommodations at two hotel towers, totaling 1,600 rooms," John Washko, vice president of expo and convention sales for the property, told Successful Meetings.
The new center is a companion to Mohegan Sun's Sky Convention Center, which features the 38,000 square-foot Uncas Ballroom, 14,000 square feet of prefunction space and 30 meeting rooms, accommodating up to 5,300 people. The property also has three night clubs, two Mandara Spa locations, the 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena, the 400-seat Cabaret Theater, the 350-seat Wolf Den music venue, the 260-seat COMIX Comedy Club, the 18-hole Mohegan Sun Golf Club, and three casinos.
