Last month, Vancouver added a new feather to its cap: Parq Vancouver (pictured), a massive "urban resort" in downtown Vancouver that includes a 72,000-square-foot casino with 11 private gaming salons, a 30,000-square-foot rooftop park, and eight chef-driven restaurants and lounges -- not to mention two Marriott hotels, both of which are slated to open next week, Marriott International announced today.

The first hotel, the DOUGLAS, is part of Marriott's Autograph Collection of independent properties. Named for the Douglas firs on which Vancouver's original economy was built, it has 178 guest rooms and 10 suites, including three two-story lofts. It has a bar, a hidden lounge, access to Parq Vancouver's aforementioned outdoor park, and -- in its lobby -- a 25-foot replica Douglas fir that's encased in glass.

The second hotel, JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, is Western Canada's first JW Marriott hotel. Along with 281 residentially inspired guest rooms and 48 suites -- including a two-floor villa -- it boasts a locally inspired art walk,  a spa and fitness center, an al fresco yoga space, and 60,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including 13 boardrooms and ballrooms - the biggest of which, the 15,604-square-foot Parq Grand Ballroom, is the largest hotel ballroom in Vancouver.

"British Columbia is an untapped market for JW Marriott, making Vancouver the ideal setting to introduce this extraordinary luxury brand to the region," said Mitzi Gaskins, global brand leader, JW Marriott & The Luxury Collection. "Vancouver's reputation as a center of health, sports, and recreation, as well as a thriving cultural scene, makes it a perfect fit for our guests and we look forward to welcoming travelers and locals alike through our doors this fall."
