The Walt Disney Co. has purchased 15 acres of land at the National Harbor development near Washington, D.C. The entertainment company plans to build a 500-room resort hotel on the site, which already has six hotels, 400 residential units, about 20 restaurants and an expansive conference center. Disney has not unveiled specific plans for the project, but it does ensure that it will not have a theme park component.
"The National Harbor resort is a completely different kind of project," Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, tells the Washington Post
. "It's specifically zoned for hotel, residential and other commercial development. This project is a hotel resort. It is not by any stretch of the imagination a theme-park project and never will be. We have no intention of building a large-scale theme park in the Washington area."Source: Hospitality Design Magazine
