Developers Break Ground on New LEED-Certified Hotel in Vermont

During a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 21, crews commenced construction on Vermont's newest hotel, a new and improved Hotel Vermont in Burlington, Vt., developers Jay Canning and Chuck DesLauriers announced last month.

The first independently owned hotel in the city in 40 years, the hotel is named for the original Hotel Vermont, which opened in downtown Burlington in 1913. The new version — which will open in 2013, 100 years after the original — will have 125 guest rooms and 1,100 square feet of meeting space, as well as an onsite restaurant and a lounge/bar.

The hotel, which will pursue LEED certification, will be built using green design practices and indigenous materials while its restaurant, Hen of the Wood Restaurant, will serve farm-to-table cuisine.

"As locals with many years of hotel experience, we have worked to create a uniquely Vermont lodging experience in our hometown," said Canning. "Hotel Vermont will be the City of Burlington's own."
