Although the economy in Las Vegas has stalled many new developments and forced local hotels to lay off dozens of workers, business remains strong on South Las Vegas Boulevard, where the new M Resort Spa Casino is bucking nationwide trends. Not only has the $1 billion resort opened on time despite the recession—a feat in and of itself—but it has also hired 250 additional employees since opening in order to keep up with customer demand.
"The M has received an overwhelming response from the market," M Resort Chairman and CEO Anthony A. Marnell, III, said in a statement. "In a city where a number of projects have been stopped or put on hold, we were able to open on time and under budget to thousands of eager guests. It shows that despite the economy, there are people who are willing to spend if they know they are getting great service and value."
M Resort opened officially on March 1 with 390 guest rooms, nine restaurants, a 23,000-square-foot spa, a 100,000-square-foot entertainment venue and over 60,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 17,400-square-foot ballroom.
"Because the M Resort is a boutique property, we're able to really work with planners, especially those with small to mid-sized meetings, to provide them with personalized service and the options and flexibility to achieve their meeting objectives," M Resort's Executive Director of Sales, Drew Varga, said in a statement.
So far, M Resort has been twice as busy as projected, according to resort officials, who pointed to its food and beverage outlets as proof: While the resort expected to serve 5,000 guests a day at its restaurants, it served nearly double that in its first three days of operations.
"Our team members have done a phenomenal job and are working extremely hard to meet the needs of our guests," Marnell said early this month. "We're taking immediate steps to hire more motivated team members to reinforce our service commitment and assist our guests. The demand is there and the people have expressed their love for our product in just these few short days."
