As an industry, pharmaceuticals is highly controlled and strictly regulated. Its meetings are therefore governed with exacting standards, which meeting planners are ever mindful of, according to a new study by Cutting Edge Information, a Durham, N.C.-based business intelligence firm.
The study, "The Evolving Global Meeting Management Strategy," explores the impact of industry regulations on meeting planners working in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical technology fields. It found that 68 percent of pharmaceutical companies classify their compliance policies with regard to meeting planning as "very strict."
"Compliance-related issues are having a significant impact on meeting planning teams," Elio Evangelista, the study's lead author, said in a statement. "The regulatory environment has expanded its reach, and companies are looking to do everything within their power to ensure that they are complying with the necessary policies."
