More than 300 government officials, community partners and business leaders gathered for a celebration last week in commemoration of a new marketing campaign for the city of Columbia, S.C., the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism (MACST) announced. The campaign—"Columbia, SC. Famously Hot."—was launched this summer in order to highlight Columbia's warm weather as well as its busy nightlife.
"Columbia is Famously Hot
," MACST President and CEO Ric Luber said in a statement. "So many people are unaware that we exist so when they come to our community they are pleasantly surprised at all the offerings of our great region."Famously Hot
replaces Columbia's previous slogan, "Where Friendliness Flows," and will position Columbia to compete for meetings business among groups that are looking not just for large meeting venues, but also for diverse food and entertainment options for their attendees.
"It is our job to carry the message that Columbia is here and we're going to be a major player in the conventions and meetings industry," Luber continued. "We are also going to aggressively attract the leisure traveler who, when they think of South Carolina, make a beeline to the coast. We're going to tell them—we're here and we're hot!"
Co-hosting Columbia's Famously Hot
celebration last week at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center was the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
