CityScape Debuts in Downtown Phoenix

After five years of planning and construction, CityScape — a $900 million mixed-use development that eventually will include at least 15 bars and restaurants, a dozen retailers and a boutique hotel — opened last week in downtown Phoenix, according to its developer, RED Development.

All told, the development boasts 1.8 million square feet of commercial, retail, residential and hotel space, 25 percent of which is currently open. Located near Phoenix's new light rail transit system, as well as the US Airways Center, Chase Field, the Phoenix Convention Center and Arizona State University's downtown campus, tenants already open for business include a gym, a bowling alley, a salon, and several restaurants and retailers.

The project's capstone, a 250-room Hotel Palomar from Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, currently is under construction and will open in mid to late 2011.

"This is a moment to be grateful because a lot of people have made a huge investment in downtown Phoenix and today says, 'You were right to believe,'" RED Managing Partner Mike Ebert said this summer, when one of CityScape's first retailers opened for business. "CityScape is at the very heart of the city of Phoenix and we've always said we want it to be a centerpiece for downtown and a place for bringing the community together."
