Virginia's Cavalier Hotel to Join Autograph Collection After Massive Renovation

The property will reopen as an Autograph Collection hotel in December

Cavalier Hotel - Virginia Beach

The Cavalier Hotel has been a fixture in Virginia Beach, VA, since 1927, when it opened just steps from the Atlantic Ocean. Ninety years later, the hotel that once hosted famous guests such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Elizabeth Taylor -- not to mention at least 10 U.S. presidents, from Calvin Coolidge to Jimmy Carter -- is preparing for a rebirth: In December, it will unveil the fruits of a $75 million renovation and restoration when it reopens as a member of Marriott International's Autograph Collection, it announced this week.

Featuring a new design inspired by its 1920s heritage, the revitalized property features 63 guest rooms and 22 suites; three signature restaurants and bars; an onsite distillery that crafts its own blends of bourbon, whiskey, and vodka; an indoor saltwater pool; a 6,000-square-foot spa; and a beach club featuring an expansive sundeck, cabanas, an oceanfront bar, an open-air infinity pool, and secluded beach access.

The hotel also boasts over 3,700 square feet of meeting space -- including a grand ballroom for groups of up to 228 seated guests that has been rebuilt to its historical footprint -- and over 5,000 square feet of outdoor event space, including porches, manicured lawns, and a stage for bands or speakers.

"The Cavalier Hotel has been undergoing an extensive restoration for over three years," said Christopher Salyer, the hotel's director of sales. "Once we welcome the public back to our uniquely authentic, history-rich property, they will find an indulgent and well-curated experience that can't be found anywhere else in Coastal Virginia, or even on the East Coast for that matter … We are primed and ready to provide an elevated resort experience to organizations that was never possible in the past at Virginia Beach."
