Canopy by Hilton Bethesda - Topping Out

North America's first Canopy by Hilton hotel has reached a major construction milestone, according to its developers, which last week hosted a topping-off ceremony for the new Canopy by Hilton Washington, D.C./Bethesda North

Located in North Bethesda, MD, the new hotel is scheduled to open this fall as part of Pike & Rose, a new, pedestrian-oriented mixed-use development encompassing 24 acres in Maryland's Montgomery County. Opened in fall 2014, the development's first phase included a luxury movie theater, 493 residential units, 159,000 square feet of retail space, and 80,000 square feet of office space. Phase two includes the Canopy by Hilton hotel, plus 215,000 square feet of additional retail space, 368 more residential units, and 120,000 square feet of additional office space.

"The vibrant neighborhood serves as an ideal location given its ability to act as both a business hub and recreational destination with attractive and unique shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities, and we look forward to welcoming guests later this year," said Gary Steffen, global head, Canopy by Hilton.

Canopy by Hilton Washington, D.C./Bethesda North will feature 177 guest rooms, including 23 suites and two presidential suites, as well as a café/bar, a signature bistro, and 4,350 square feet of meeting space.

"This is a very guest-centric hotel, which matches up well with our operating philosophy," said Joseph Bojanowski, president of PM Hotel Group, the hotel's management company.  "We are well versed in the upscale and boutique hotel segments, having operated many properties in these classes. Its high-profile location in a major new development will showcase the brand and be a major factor in attracting business and leisure travelers, as well as locals, to the Pike & Rose development."

Canopy by Hilton became Hilton's 13th brand when it was announced in fall 2014. Specializing in "simple guest-directed service, thoughtful local choices, and surprisingly comfortable spaces," its hotels are intended to have a distinctly local focus, featuring designs and amenities reflective of the local neighborhoods in which they're located.

"As an owner/operator, we seek to be on the cutting edge," said Dave Pollin, cofounder of Buccini/Pollin Group, the hotel's developer.  "We believe the Canopy brand will quickly become a market leader in the upper upscale lifestyle segment."
