Swiss property will include 24,000 square feet of meeting space

Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne

Set on a forested ridge 2,800 feet above Lake Lucerne, the car-free Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne is set for a summer, 2017 opening. Katara Hospitality is investing approximately $495 million dollars in this holistic resort, spread over 148 acres and which will be open year round.

The resort will boast the largest meeting facilities in central Switzerland with 24,000 square feet of meeting space accommodating up to 900 people. Included are 31 meeting rooms and a ballroom that can accommodate 400 guests. Two tennis halls can also double as event and conferencing venues for around 600 attendees each and every facility is equipped with the latest conferencing technology.

The Bürgenstock will include 383 rooms in four hotels, 67 residences, a 107,000 square-foot-spa and wellness center -- not to mention the highest outdoor elevator in Europe, and a funicular that deposits guests directly inside the hotel. For those looking to enjoy the area's stunning outdoors, the property will offer a nine-hole golf course, three championship tennis courts, a curling rink, 43 miles of hiking and biking trails, and a private lido on the lake for water sports.

Speaking of the Swiss landscape, the resort will be CO2 neutral thanks to its energy system which uses lake water operated by certified local hydroelectric power. The resort's 74 acres of forest and meadows will also help to offset any carbon emissions.

Foodies can choose between Bürgenstock's 12 restaurants and bars serving cuisines ranging from French to Asian to Middle Eastern, and of course Swiss and regional Alpine. Spa goers and health fanatics can opt for healthy cuisine at the 100,000-square-foot spa.
