Boston Welcomes Ames, a New Boutique Hotel

Morgans Hotel Group has opened a new boutique hotel, called Ames, in downtown Boston, it announced last month.

Part of the company's "Originals" collection of distinctive independent properties, the new hotel is located inside the Ames Building, a 19th century building that once served as the corporate headquarters for a family-owned agricultural tool company. Featuring a design that's at once historic and contemporary, it has 114 rooms—including 107 guest rooms, one apartment and six suites—a two-story restaurant and bar, a state-of-the-art fitness center and 520 square feet of meeting space.

"We really wanted our design to reflect a contrast of eras, where the historical context and Ames family history would merge with a modern framework to bring a fresh, new experience to the hospitality market in Boston," said David Rockwell of the Rockwell Group, which designed the hotel in partnership with Morgans Hotel Group.

Added Morgans Hotel Group President Marc Gordon, "We took great pains to preserve the historic elements of the building while adding a spectacular, modern design creating a tension between the two and resulting in a truly special and original experience. Boston is a dynamic, cultural city, relevant both to our company and our guests."
