The Betsy-South Beach Unveils New 'Art Deco' Wing

The Betsy - South Beach - Guest Room

In time for its 75th anniversary, The Betsy-South Beach in Miami Beach has completed a two-year expansion, the centerpiece of which is a new "Art Deco" wing, it announced last week.

The result of a merger with the former Carlton Hotel on Collins Avenue, the new addition nearly doubles the hotel's occupancy and adds nearly a dozen new spaces, including a four- to eight-bedroom penthouse suite with a wrap-around balcony, two restaurants, several event spaces and galleries, and a 3,200-square-foot rooftop deck and swimming pool.

Along with the new penthouse, which is available for private events, and the new rooftop pool, which boasts views of both the ocean and the city, highlights include: the Work Room, which can accommodate groups of up to 25 for board meetings or private dining; the Library, a meeting space for up to 25 guests that has a curated collection of books as well as a stocked bar for special events; the Conservatory, which used to be the lobby of the Carlton and is now a reception space for groups of up to 165; 14th Place Terrace, an outdoor breakout space with a chef's herb garden and tiered seating for groups of up to 15; the Gallery, a 1,700-square-foot multi-function space for groups of up to 165; and the Atrium, a 3,000-square-foot outdoor courtyard that has a stage for performances and enough space for groups of up to 300.

"Our goal with the expansion was to further The Betsy's existing commitment to community by providing more platforms for our guests and partners to utilize and enjoy," said hotel owner Jonathan Plutzik. "In that effort, we've created a diversity of unique spaces for both guests and locals to discover, which we hope will inspire them to return again and again."

The original Betsy Ross Hotel on Ocean Drive, now known as the hotel's "Colonial" wing, connects to the "Art Deco" wing via "The Orb," a new bridge that doubles as a public art installation. Together, the two wings offer 130 accommodations and 15,000 square feet of meeting space.
