It would be easy, while taking in the sun on a pink, sandy beach in Bermuda, to feel worlds away from the office. Fortunately for meeting planners, this island getaway is easy to get to, less than two hours from the East Coast by plane.

Bermuda's exclusivity makes it appealing for meetings, allowing groups to focus on business during the day and feel like they have the island to themselves at night. Roni Feldman, president of Roni Feldman & Associates, recently planned a trip for an association group of 275 people in Bermuda, and took the group to the tiny Hawkins Island for a special evening event.

"We had a lovely cruise over there, and it was like the island was totally ours," says Feldman. The evening's program included a special dinner, limbo dancing, and music. The group had actually visited Bermuda years before, for another meeting, but this private activity impressed even those who had already visited. "It made them feel incredibly exclusive and special—they were in meetings during the day, so they loved the fact that they were out of the hotel."

Feldman's group stayed at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, which includes a range of conference rooms able to accommodate meetings for groups from 20 to 300 persons. Among the other high-end properties offering meeting opportunities are the Princess' sister property, The Fairmont Southampton; Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa; and Mandarin Oriental's Elbow Beach Bermuda, which recently refurbished its 1,344-sf Bermuda Room.

Any meeting held in Bermuda should include some time for snorkeling or swimming. With eight golf courses, winding horse trails. and the breathtaking Gilbert Nature Reserve, there is as much to do on land as in the water.
