Beau Rivage Plans New Hotel, Banquet Area in Wilmington, N.C.

The owners of Beau Rivage Golf & Resort in Wilmington, N.C., want to tear down most of their existing facility and replace it with a new 80-room hotel and 350-seat banquet area, local newspaper the Wilmington Star News reported this month.

In the works for four years, the $10 million project also would include upgrades to the resort's clubhouse, pool and tennis courts.

"The existing building is more than 20 years old and worn down," Charlie Walker, one of the resort's owners, told the Star News. "It's outdated."

Plans for the resort — which currently has 27 one-bedroom villa suites and 4,600 square feet of banquet space — call for a central resort center that's flanked by three-story wings for the hotel guest rooms. Before work can begin, however, county officials must approve the proposed renovations.
