Alabama: Home to Marriott's Hotel, GMs of the Year

Marriott's Hotel of the Year; General Manager of the Year and Renaissance General Manager of the Year are all from one state that travelers may not expect: Alabama.

The winning hotel—the Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel & Conference Center at Grand National—and general managers—Steve Miller of the Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa and David Clark of the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa—are all part of the Resort Collection on Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which is located near Birmingham and owned by the Retirement Systems of Alabama.

"Collectively, the hotels and resorts on the RTJ Golf Trail won 11 major awards, which is unheard of in this industry," Jay Prater, general manager of the Auburn/Opelika Marriott said in a statement.

In addition to the three above-mentioned top-tier awards, Resort Collection properties won eight excellence awards in areas such as food and beverage, sales and guest satisfaction—all part of the annual international Marriott and Renaissance Awards competition for Marriott-brand properties.

"Between the Grand Hotel and the other hotels and resorts in the RTJ Resort Collection," Clark said, "meeting planners and leisure guests are now looking at Alabama as a destination alternative and are thrilled at what they discover."
