CIC Releases New Edition of APEX Industry Glossary

The Convention Industry Council (CIC) has released a new edition of the APEX Industry Glossary, which it bills as "one of the most comprehensive guides to terminology in the industry," it announced this week.

"The new 2011 edition of the glossary is part of the APEX leadership's commitment to keep these industry-specific, industry-developed resources relevant, up-to-date and accessible," said APEX Leadership Council Chair Teri Tonioli, senior vice president at Experient. "The previous edition of the glossary was released in 2005, so a top-to-bottom review by the APEX Standards Review Council was imperative."

Designed to meet the needs of practicing meeting planners as well as hospitality students — including those who are studying to take the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) exam — the new version of the APEX Industry Glossary was consolidated and re-categorized. While the original glossary featured more than 4,000 terms, for instance, the new one features roughly 1,450.

"The members of the Standards Review Council who volunteered their time and energy to this revision undertook an enormous task and deserve our recognition and thanks," said Tonioli. "They have made a substantial contribution to the convention industry."

The 2011 edition of the APEX Industry Glossary is available both in print and online at www.conventionindustry.org.
