Because it wants to accommodate the needs of meeting planners who have been affected by the recession, Hamilton Park Hotel & Conference Center in Florham Park, N.J., has introduced a new meetings promotion that's modeled off of the ups and downs of a so-called "yo-yo economy."
Tied to Wall Street, the promotion promises meeting planners a reduction in the cost of their meeting that's equal to the performance of the Dow Jones Industrial Average on the closing day of their meeting. If the Dow closes between 9,000 and 10,000, for instance, the cost of their meeting is reduced by 10 percent. If the Dow closes between 8,000 and 8,999, the cost of the meeting is reduced by 20 percent. And if the Dow closes below 7,999, the cost of the meeting is reduced by 30 percent.
To kick off the promotion—which is available for new meetings that are both booked and actualized by June 30, 2009—Hamilton Park recently distributed a yo-yo that was packaged with instructions for using the classic toy, as well as for booking a meeting.
