It has never been easier to explore Chicago’s diverse communities than with Urban Excursions, the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture’s summer initiative that showcases hundreds of tours and other urban adventures.
includes daily blog postings about recommended treks and a variety of free events throughout the city. Eleven free SCVNGR treks and Foursquare badges offer a variety of suggested itineraries for exploring everything from Chicago movie locations and Blues clubs where participants check-in and complete interactive challenges on their mobile phone. In June alone, over 1 million people visited the website.
The website also provides links to interactive Google maps, event listings, essays about Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods, multi-media content that includes audio tours, videos, and podcasts, a virtual visitor center with downloadable brochures, maps, and resources for international travelers, photographs, and “Insider Profiles” of Chicagoans who share their favorite things to see and do in the city.
Twitter concierges are available seven days a week at twitter.com/explorechicago
to answer questions, make restaurant recommendations, and help visitors develop customized itineraries.
