This week, the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., broke ground on a $20 million renovation project, the Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau announced.

Scheduled for completion in August 2013, phase one of the two-phase project will include renovation of the convention center’s West Building upper level ballrooms and adjacent restrooms, renovation of the same building’s lower-level kitchen, installation of a new service corridor and service elevator for the ballrooms, demolition of the south ramp to the loading dock, and recoating of the facility’s East Building exterior walls and parapets.

Phase two of the renovation — details of which aren’t yet available — will begin this fall and conclude in summer 2014.
