An efficient DMO can save you time, money and make you look like a million bucks with your group. Of course it makes sense to work with them, but here are some tips on getting the most out of that partnership.

Partner from the start. It's critical for you to bring the DMO in at the inception of the event. Looping in the DMO right from the beginning can save you time and energy.

Let the DMO select the best. The DMO can be a filter to let you know which properties and vendors could be a good fit for your group. They can steer you to the right people.

Match ideas with their offerings. Don't discount the DMO as a creative source. They can help you adapt your creative ideas to their offerings. As they know more than you do about their destination, they maybe able to see options that you can't. "Meeting attendees are seeking opportunities that will take them beyond four walls of a standard meeting room and if you can dream it, you can do it in Las Vegas. Our industry and resort partners are constantly evolving to meet the needs of our visitors and deliver on the business experience that is synonymous with our city's reputation. Only Las Vegas can deliver on the promise of value, customer service and unlimited options," says Chris Meyer, vice president of Global Business Sales at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA).

Follow up and feedback. Keep in touch post-event with the DMO to remain an active partner. That relationship will keep you top of mind with them until your next interaction with them.

Lines of communication. Good communication is key to any business interaction. Keep the lines of communication open before, during, and after your event.

Comprehensive info. Provide as much detail and be as specific as possible with the DMO team. And of course you should send out RFPs that are as thorough as possible.

Go for the perks. DMOs may be underutilized by planners who don't take advantage of their connections and the extras they have access to. "The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is an invaluable asset for planners organizing an event of any size, scale and budget in the world's premier meeting landscape. The combined experience and expertise of our team makes navigating Las Vegas' countless amenities a straightforward experience resulting in unforgettable events you won't find anywhere else," says Meyer.

Finding local talent. Your DMOs are the local experts. They know the players in their community. So if you need a speaker on a specific topic, they can help you find one.

Don't ask the impossible. A DMOs ability during the negotiation process may be limited depending on the partners' policies. Even if that is the case, they can still help you reap any synergies among venues.
