'Tis the season for outdoor events. And while everyone loves to spend summer outside -- including meeting attendees -- the truth is: Al fresco events often sound better in theory than they are in reality.
Think about it: Sure, there's sun and scenery. But there's also sweat, sunburns, heat stroke and bugs.

Fortunately, a little preparation and forethought can help you keep your outdoor events feeling sweet instead of sweltering, says Successful Meetings contributor Kevin Dana, executive director of marketing and product development at CORT Trade Show & Event Furnishings.

"The summer months are a beautiful time to host an outdoor event but can leave guests hot and dehydrated," Dana observes. "Provide water stations throughout the venue, offering guests water infused with citrus or fruits so they can stay hydrated. Guests can help themselves without lining up for the bar and the stations look gorgeous when paired with fresh linens. Be sure to place bug spray around the tables and have plenty of citronella candles flickering, adding to the ambiance and protecting your guests from mosquitoes."
