What meeting planners most hate about their jobs is waiting on other people to make decisions. So finds Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), which this week concluded its March "Meeting Planning Madness" Tournament, which during the month of March asked meeting planners to vote on which aspects of their job drive them "mad."
During the tournament, which featured brackets like the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, more than 400 meeting planners cast more than 3,000 votes. The winner
, "Waiting on Others to Make Decisions," received over 63 percent of the votes, followed by "Stakeholders Who Think They're Planners" in second place.
"Honestly, I was a little surprised by the outcome of our tournament and it has given me a new appreciation and insight in to planners' challenges," said Christine "Shimo" Shimasaki, managing director of DMAI's empowerMINT initiative. "I can't think of anything more frustrating and anxiety-ridden than being responsible for a project with a deadline date and not having complete control. Delays in decisions create pressure on the numerous tasks and other decisions that must be made in a timely manner."
