U.S. meeting professionals are showing increased interest in European meeting destinations, according to Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE), organizer of the Americas Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition (AIBTM).For a recap of last week's top stories, check out MeetingNews Minute:
Following AIBTM 2013, RTE surveyed U.S. hosted buyers who attended the show and identified a “clear demand” for a greater European exhibitor presence at AIBTM 2014, which is scheduled to take place June 10-12, 2014, in Orlando.
According to RTE, hosted buyers specifically identified Canary Islands, Greece, Italy, Monaco, Portugal, Spain and Turkey as key regions of American buyer interest. Additionally, over half of AIBTM buyers specifically selected Southern and Mediterranean Europe as a key region of interest for placing outbound business.
Other findings from the post-show survey:
• Sixty percent of hosted buyers said they placed orders in excess of $600,000 as a direct result of their participation at the show.
• Seventy-five percent of all buyers present at AIBTM 2013 attended to keep up to date and find out more about what is new in the industry.
• Eighty percent of buyers at AIBTM 2013 planned international meetings.
• Sixty-three percent of U.S. buyers predict using new destinations within the next 12 months.
