Event design will blend "retro" and "vintage" with "contemporary" and "cutting-edge," according to event furniture and lighting supplier CORT Trade Show & Event Furnishings, which today published its predictions for the top event furnishings design trends of 2015.

According to CORT, events this year will be shaped by three primary design trends. The first is mid-century inspired furnishings that reference iconic designs, shapes, and modernism first popularized in the 1950s and 1960s.

"The simple, modern aesthetic of furnishings from this period is popular with today's event planners and streamlined, comfortable furnishings allow attendees to focus on the purpose of the meeting or event," said Kevin Dana, director of marketing and product development at CORT Trade Show & Event Furnishings. "The minimalism of the pieces creates clutter free environments which are conducive to networking and coincides with the desire to present a straightforward approach to design in a complicated world."

The second major trend of 2015, according to CORT, will be Hollywood regency, reflecting the glamour of the film industry through a combination of modern furniture and neoclassical pieces with vintage flair, including furnishings with blue velvets, gold, silver, and black textured upholstery.

CORT's third and final prediction is the incorporation of technology and power, such as mobile charging stations, into events and trade show furnishings.

"As a designer, I'm constantly challenged to provide powered solutions for clients," said event designer Jordan Carbotti of Perfect Surroundings Intl. "CORT is the first event rental company to roll out a complete line of powered products available nationwide that seamlessly incorporates power into the furniture."
