On Tuesday evening, the winners of the 2017 SportsTravel Awards were announced at a gala event during the Teams '17 Conference & Expo in Orlando, which is being held through November 3. The National Congress of State Games also announced its winners for its Athlete of the Year awards during the award ceremony.

"The SportsTravel Awards celebrate excellence in sports-event management and production," Timothy Schneider, founder and chairman of the Sports Division of Northstar Travel Group, which publishes SportsTravel magazine and organizes the TEAMS Conference & Expo, said in a statement. "We are pleased to honor these outstanding sporting events, as well as the event organizers who create them and the cities that work tirelessly to host them."

The SportsTravel Awards program honors amateur, collegiate, and professional teams in three categories each -- Best Event Series or Circuit, Best Multi-Sport or Multi-Discipline Event, and Best Single-Sport Event -- and two awards for Sports Event of the Year and Best New Event. For the 2017 awards, events had to take place between July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.

The 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship featuring Clemson vs. Alabama in Tampa, FL, was named both the Sports Event of the Year and the Best Collegiate Single-Sport Event.
