At the Incentive Marketing Association's (IMA) 2014 Executive Summit, taking place July 27 in Philadelphia, the Incentive Travel Council (ITC) will honor Maritz Travel Company President David Peckinpaugh, it announced yesterday.

Peckinpaugh, who has served for two years as co-chair of the Meetings Mean Business coalition, will be named ITC's 2014 "Advocate of the Year." He is the fifth person to receive the award, which according to ITC recognizes an "individual, business or organization that demonstrates outstanding leadership in enhancing, educating and/or promoting incentive travel as a value driver for achieving organizational performance."

"David was chosen for this honor because he has led the charge, ushering in a new era in an industry coalition effort that came to the aid of our market during the heights of media, political and public scrutiny," ITC President Don Killingbeck said in a statement. "And, in his daily work, David's highest priority has always been assuring that incentive travel guests have an exciting and memorable experience."

In addition to Maritz Travel and Meetings Mean Business, Peckinpaugh serves the U.S. Travel Association as a board and executive committee member, the PCMA Education Foundation as a trustee and Tourism Vancouver, the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, Delta Airlines, Taj Hotels, Social Tables and the St. Louis University Hospitality Program as an advisory board member.

"I'm honored to be recognized by the ITC for what's become an industry-wide push to communicate the value of incentive travel in building personal connections, achieving positive business outcomes and fostering stronger communities," Peckinpaugh said. "One of my professional goals is to encourage a unified industry voice that underscores the significance of what we collectively do. By creating meaningful, motivating and memorable experiences for incentive travel guests, the entire travel industry can reap long-term benefits."

Past "Advocate of the Year" honorees are G.J. Hart of the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant, Dahlton Bennington of the SFN Group, Dana Weaver of GROWMARK and Successful Meetings Senior Editor Leo Jakobson, who also is executive editor of Successful Meetings' sister publication, Incentive magazine.
