Destination websites, destination-sponsored events, and trade shows are instrumental when it comes to deciding where meetings and events will be held, according to DestinationMAP2017, an independent survey published biennially by data benchmarking firm STR.  

  Trade magazines also have far-reaching influence, according to DestinationMAP2017. Northstar Travel Group's Meetings & Conventions and Successful Meetings ranked as number one and number two, respectively, for most-read across all planner categories -- association, corporate and third-party.

 The most popular trade shows, according to the survey are IMEX, which 19 percent cited, local and national Meeting Professionals International (MPI) events (17 percent), the American Society of Association Executives' (ASAE) Annual Meeting & Expo (16 percent), and local and national Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) events (15 percent).
