In response to growing demand from clients, CWT Meetings & Events, the meetings and events division of Carlson Wagonlit Travel, has expanded globally its Strategic Meetings Management (SMM) Solutions practice, it announced yesterday.

“We began offering SMM solutions to our clients in July 2010 and have successfully grown the practice by more than 200 percent,” says Kari Wendel, senior director, SMM strategy and solutions, CWT Meetings & Events. “We saw a dramatic increase in requests for SMM design and deployment in 2012, with many organizations tackling meeting registration and venue sourcing. In 2013, we expect many additional companies to follow suit and anticipate that those who have already entered the SMM space to continue to expand their initiatives.”

As part of its SMM expansion, CWT Meetings & Events has hired Melissa Nahama as director of SMM solutions and analytics, a newly created role in which the company says Nahama will work to “support global expansion, providing leadership to the program management and data analytics teams.”

Based in Philadelphia, Nahama has more than 20 years of travel industry experience, most recently as account manager for Maxvantage, where she supported a portfolio of pharmaceutical, health care, consumer goods and professional services clients in achieving their SMM goals.
