These days, an event app can be an effective way to market your meeting and engage attendees. That is, if you can get attendees to download it and use it. Mobile app platform Guidebook has unveiled a new feature set designed to help meeting planners do exactly that, it announced this week.

The new feature set, which constitutes Guidebook's first major feature release of 2017, is "Users & Groups," which delivers new capabilities in the areas of user onboarding, app adoption, and app security. For example, meeting organizers can now email invitations to a select list of meeting attendees either by uploading email addresses in bulk or by manually adding them. After attendees' email addresses are loaded, Guidebook will automatically send an email to the list inviting users to download the event's mobile app. The result, according to Guidebook, is a streamlined onboarding process that will increase app adoption and eliminate the need for a third-party email provider.

Users & Groups also allows whitelisting, which means event organizers can limit app access to a list of invited users, which is ideal for events with exclusive content or strict security needs; user-level reporting, which means event organizers can get details about logged-in users for the purpose of understanding user behavior; and groups, which means event organizers can organize app users into subsets in order to deliver them targeted messages and offers.
