The meeting planning division of American Express Global Business Travel, American Express Meetings & Events, has launched a new app to help pharmaceutical companies increase transparency and comply with federal regulations when hosting health care provider (HCP) attendees at their events, it announced today.

Called HCP Mobile Connect, the new app was produced by mobile app maker DoubleDutch, which designed it to digitally capture event attendance in order to give pharmaceutical companies a clear, reliable record of the indirect transfer of value to HCPs through their participation in sales meetings, education programs, and conferences.

Using the app, meeting organizers can assign individual, password-protected mobile logins to personnel checking in attendees at their events. Those personnel can then use their smartphones to create and manage electronic attendance records, which according to American Express Meetings & Events will offer verifiable HCP attendance visibility while removing the opportunity for error that exists with paper sign-in sheets.

"Pharmaceutical companies are facing increasingly complex obligations from a regulatory and compliance perspective, both within the U.S. and internationally. With this in mind, we offer a suite of services for the health care industry to assist in providing full visibility of meetings and events attendees and associated spending," said Issa Jouaneh, senior vice president and general manager, American Express Meetings & Events. "The health care industry involves thousands of meetings every year, all over the world, and they vary in size from large conferences, to mini-events such as lunches and dinners. With this in mind, an app such as HCP Mobile Connect, which provides transparency on attendance records, will deliver value to its users, who are required to keep track of this information in order to remain compliant."

HCP Mobile Connect is available to all American Express Meetings & Events pharmaceutical customers.
